Primary Objective:

This position will be responsible for managing projects of the Lighting/Video division. Lighting design experience is a plus but not necessary, as this job is project based in nature.  L1’s are considered to be in the Advanced stages of the technician ladder and generally work under little to no supervision from Department Managers. L1’s are tasked with beginning to lead and direct crews as well as event prep and execution.

Essential Role and Responsibilities:

  • Project Manage Lighting/Video events for the Company and Crew Chief the event as the L1.
  • Leads pulling of shows, quality control of gear, and return of gear.
  • Under little to no supervision manage and update event paperwork, including asset software and lighting plots.
  • Responsible for ensuring that all regulations required for the safe use of all related electrical, lighting/video and rigging equipment be met and maintained concerning all federal and O.S.H.A. requirements.
  • Leads staff of Lighting/Video Department technicians. Must be able to manage efficiently and effectively while maintaining positive morale and a proactive work environment in a fast paced warehouse.
  • Supervise the repair of lighting/video equipment.
  • Train and lead staff of lighting/video technicians, and educate events leads and shop staff on all lighting/video, prepping, rigging and power system capabilities and general usage.
  • Ability to read and understand detailed lighting design and plotting for pertaining shows.
  • Participate in the warehouse on-call management rotation

Prep:

  • Manage all assigned projects for lighting/video system prep/design/paperwork.
  • Works with Management to complete cable, rigging, power plots and set up final equipment lists for Management and Warehouse.
  • Assist Warehouse event prep/sub hires/pick ups/deliveries/returns with shop labor based on rental software and Warehouse scheduling.
  • Assist in all Lighting related event equipment prep where needed.

Event:

  • Festivals, tours, one-offs, weekend, corporate or any applicable Company event.
  • Keep watch on the health of your team, working with local staff to get the team’s needs met such as food and water.

Knowledge/Skills:

  • Software Knowledge – Should know 1 or more:
    • Grand MA 3d, Build Show Files, Sync with consoles
    • LED Studio: Ability to configure video walls
    • Knowledge of how to edit show files offline
    • WYSIWYG: Able to build designs, Export designs and patches, Able to sync with consoles.
    • LED: Ability configure video walls
    • Knowledge of how to edit show files offline.
  • Console Knowledge – Should know 1 or more
    • MA I: Set up / adapt show files, How to Network Desk, How to Set up Artnet control of media server
    • MA II: Set up / adapt show files, How to Network Desk, How to Set up Artnet control of media server
    • CHAMSYS: Set up / adapt show files, How to Network Desk, How to Set up Artnet control of media server
    • Hog 4: Set up / adapt show files, How to Network Desk, How to Set up Artnet control of media server
    • Various Older Desks
  • Hardware Knowledge
    • Advanced knowledge of:
      • Lighting Fixtures
        • Intelligent: How to address and wire all fixtures, How to do all onboard Functions. How to change lamps
        • Conventional: How to change lamps and lenses
      • Motors, Truss, and Rigging:
        • Understanding of how to use rigging and assist in marking points
        • Ability and Understanding of how to Use Chain Motors
        • Understanding of how different types of truss work and how to maintain
      • Comprehensive Knowledge of how to setup and tie in Feeder, and Meter service
        • To a Local service
      • Comprehensive knowledge of how BNP Equipment is set up: Opto Racks, Power Distros, Workboxes
      • Comprehensive knowledge of Asset Servicing
        • How to Maintain Lighting
          • Intelligent: Replace fuses, Replace broken parts, Bench focus, Clean Fans and Filters, Clean Lenses
          • Conventional: Repair Broken Parts, Bench Focus, Clean Lenses
        • Console Maintenance: Update and Software, Clean Surface and Change Filters
        • Cable Maintenance: BNP Wiring Diagrams, How to Test and Repair all Cable Types
          • How specialty cables are made., Knowledge of BNP Repair / Service Paperwork and procedures
        • Knowledge of BNP Repairs/Service Paperwork and Procedures.
      • Comprehensive knowledge of how to asset protection
    • Event Knowledge: Ability to Run Lights or Video, Ability to Maintain Dimmer world, Ability to interface additional desks into BNP systems, Assist lead in working with Local staff to produce Event

Qualifications and Education Requirements:

  • High School Diploma
  • Must know Wysiwig & Vectorworks
  • 5-10 years in the touring, concert, event industry
  • 5-10 years in managing multiple technical people
  • Basic understanding of Microsoft and Google products and R2 Inventory system.

Experience Required:

  • Advanced knowledge of advanced lighting and video equipment
  • Current with the latest lighting/video technology including Wysiwyg & Vectorworks.
  • Working knowledge of moving light repair, programming, and operation.
  • Proficient in entertainment rigging and electricity.

Preferred Skills & Requirements:

  • College Degree
  • 10 years of experience in technical event operations and production
